- BookFlix. The college library has subscribed to the Scholastic BookFlix database. BookFlix presents 85 English language and 21 Spanish language children's books paired with a video version of the text or one on the same subject. Both fiction and nonfiction titles are included. - Re-Wiring. The wiring project under way in the main hallways is related to an upgrade of the campus fire alarm system. Re-wiring in the "banana wing," ground floor and EDA wing will start Oct. 26. (Submitted by Dave White 10/22/09)
- Welcome (corrected 10/26/09): Sheryl Buckley to Education and Humanities office; Brett Getter to Center for Teaching and Technology, and Abigail Bowers to Co-Op Office. - Trick or Treat Parade. The Early Learning Center’s annual Trick or Treat parade will be Thursday, Oct. 29. The children will leave the center at 10:15 to begin their journey around campus. If you would like a visit from some princesses, spidermen, transformers, and assorted animals, call the Early Learning Center at ext. 311 or email Linda Novak and we will add you to the list. We anticipate 24 children will be in attendance. This is a day the children really enjoy and we look forward to seeing you on the 29th. (Submitted by Linda Novak 10/15/09)
- Career Program. Career Services is offering a career program for students on Monday, Oct. 26, 11 am - 12:15 pm in Computer lab, 0414D. Students will have an opportunity to register in a free lifetime internet-based career system. Topics to be covered will include interest assessment, career exploration, creating resumes, and interview tips. Students who attend will be eligible for drawing of a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card. - "Big Read" Screening. As part of "The Big Read" project, a free screening of "To Kill A Mockingbird" will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the multi-purpose room. Special guest will be Mary Badham, Academy Award Best Supporting Actress nominee for her portrayal of "Scout" in the film. (Submitted by Kim Jones 10/21/09)
- Staffing Notices. Please welcome back a familiar face, former student and recent graduate ... Amanda Whitlow. She is working at the switchboard as a Mountaineer Temp while Michelle Kincaid is assisting the Records Office with a project. Also welcome back to Lisa Farrow Burns, student and former Mt. - Book Ordering Available. For individuals interested in purchasing a copy of "The Journey of the Lost Boys," by Joan Hecht prior to the author's appearance here on Nov. 16, the college Bookstore is accepting orders. The deadline for ordering a copy of the book from our bookstore is Nov. 2 to assure delivery prior to Nov. 16. A few additional copies may be available for purchase at the book signing. - Reminder: Faculty, staff and students are invited to see the film, "My Country," to be shown at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, in the theatre. The one-hour documentary hosted by symphony conductor James DePreist focuses on the movement that led to the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. (Submitted by Debbie Richards 10/16/09)
- Take a Flower to Childcare Day. The Early Learning Center is one of several WV programs taking part in the 2nd annual “Take a Flower to Childcare Day” Oct. 20 from 10 – 10:30 am. Goal of "Take a Flower to Childcare Day" is to raise awareness about the important role high-quality childcare plays in the healthy development of young children and the economic future of West Virginia. The children, along with parents and friends, will create flower-related art and pictures to display in the Center. Please feel to join us during that time to celebrate the day. You will be participating, along with thousands of parents, young children and community leaders statewide, who rely on great childcare every day. - Girls Go Green. Faculty and staff are invited to the math and science field day, Girls Go Green event, on campus Friday, Oct. 16th. Beginning at 9 am and running until 1:30 pm, 8th grade girls will be attending 18 workshops and presentations which will demonstrate to them how they can save the planet and earn a good living at the same time. - Free Information Session. The Library will hold information sessions on the Foundation Center Cooperative Collection on Thursday Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 17 at 9 a.m. in the Library. The presentation includes a demonstration of the Foundation Center Directory Online, a database of 80,000 foundations and ˝ million grants. The sessions are free and open to the public. - Clothesline Project. The domestic violence Clothesline project will be displayed in the Criminal Justice lab the week of Oct 12th. There will also be a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct 14th, in front of the college in remembrance of domestic violence victims. The display will be available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday and 9 a.m. - 2p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. (Submitted by Louis Roy 10/9/09)

- Congo Presentation. On Monday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m., CIT professor Doug Weaver will give a talk in Room 2209 entitled "Congo - A Country of Great Potential and Great Difficulties." Professor Weaver was in the Congo in the summer of 2009 during Secretary of State Clinton's visit to that country. As a prelude to the talk, student Auriana Cale will read from Ruined, Lynn Nottage's Pulitzer Prize-winning play about the Congo. (Submitted by Rebecca Phillips 10/6/09)
