  • Well Represented.  WVU Parkersburg was well represented at the West Virginia Academy of Science meeting at Glenville State College March 28.  Science Department faculty in attendance included (pictured) Dr. Marshall Griffin and Dr. Joyce Kronberg; Dr. Ed Crisp, Nancy Dew, Rebecca Tucker, Susan Sowards (adjunct), and Gary Waggoner.  Poster presenters were Dr. Griffin, Dr. Kronberg, Dr. Crisp, and Susan Sowards. 
  • Interdisciplinary Conversations.  The college's Interdisciplinary Conversations series will feature a presentation Monday (April 6) by Economics Professor Sy Sarkarat at 11 a.m. in Room 1330.  Dr. Sarkarat's presentation is entitled "Fulbright Experiences and Opportunities."  He will discuss his fall 2008 experience as a Fulbright Scholar teaching and working at Azerbaijan State Economics University in Baku, Azerbaijan.  The program is free and open to the campus community.   • Tone Zone.  The Tone Zone is coming to our campus!  Do you desire to tone those muscles that have been hiding under sweaters?  This is a FREE program  that provides you with a pair of weights and a workout DVD (hosted by Pamela Santer) and all you need to is fill out a pre and post survey.  How easy is that and they are yours to keep!  Pre-survey available in the Deans' suite or from Pamela in  office 1535.  Deadline to turn in survey is April 1.  (Submitted by Pamela Santer 3/25/09)
  • Welcome:  Jackelyn Bennet and Douglas Rhodes to Computer Services as Professional Technologist I's.  They start their new duties on March 23rd.  Congratulations:  Sandi Smith, Admissions and Records Office, has received an upgrade to Associate Registrar effective March 16th.   (Submitted by Peggy Jameson 3/20/09)
  • Nominations Sought.  The Selection Committee for the Bernard P. McDonough Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year is seeking nominations. Any person or group in the college or alumni may submit a one-page narrative detailing the credentials and contributions of the nominee, and explaining why the nomination was made. These may be mailed to Committee Chair John Gorrell or paper copies may submitted through the Executive Dean of Academic Affairs office.   • Stories of Turkish Women.  On Wednesday (March 25), world traveler and college professor Susan Holm will present “Stories of Turkish Women: The Strength of Tent Poles” in a free presentation at  the college.  MORE

  • Summer, Fall Schedules The summer and fall 2009 course schedules are on line and can be accessed from the college home page under the Lightning Links. (Submitted 3/16/09)  
  • Distinguished Lecture.   On Wednesday (March 25), the campus will host nursing theorist Dr. Betty Neuman for an 11 a.m. lecture on “Neuman’s Theory: Then and Now.”  She will share her historical perspective of the nursing profession as well as the theory she developed which is applied in nursing and psychological health care today. The lecture, co-sponsored by WVU at Parkersburg and  the Counseling & Wellness Center, PLLC, will be held in the theatre in observance of Women’s History Month.  It is free and open to the public.  (Submitted by Debbie Richards 3/20/09)

  • Holiday Reminder:  The college will close at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, March 20, during Spring Break.  (Therefore, those who wish to request the day off would request 3.75 hours of annual leave.)  (Submitted by Debbie Richards 3/10/09)
  • Spring Break Scenario.  Please note that the college will host another Multi-Agency Emergency Scenario during spring break. It will be held on March 17th after business hours. Law enforcement officers, fire department personnel, and emergency service members will be involved as well as identified college personnel. (Submitted by Michelle Bissell 3/10/09)
  • Kindle 2 The library has purchase the revised Amazon Kindle Reader. Interested faculty and staff may sign the reader out overnight for examination. Please contact Stephen Hupp at x418 for additional information.  (Submitted 3/2/09)
  • Retirement Presentation.  Connie Blaha from TIAA will offer a group presentation on "Staying on Track in a Volatile Market" on March 11th from 11 AM - 12:15 PM in Room 2211.  (Submitted by Peggy Jameson 3/9/09)
  • Safety Fair.  Learn how to keep you and your family safe!  A campus Safety Fair will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room Wednesday, March 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  As part of the Safety Fair - Sergeant Westfall from the Wood County Sheriff's Department will demonstrate self -defense tactics in the Multi purpose room at 11:30 a.m.  (Submitted by Pam Santer 3/10/09)
  • Deadline Extended.  The Summer 2009 Foreign Language Study Scholarship deadline has been extended until Monday, March 9 at 4 p.m.  Application forms are available here.  Dates and other information are on the Office for Global Initiatives website .
