  • Spring 2010 Faculty Professional Development Week Schedule.  Link.

  • Congratulations!  Michelle Bissell, Academic Affairs Office Administrator, graduated with a Master's Degree in Communication Studies from West Virginia University on Dec. 13th at WVU's Convocation Ceremony in Morgantown.

  • Congratulations!  Kathy Frum, assistant professor of nursing, graduated with a post-master's Certificate in Nursing Education from Marshall University.  She participated in Marshall's Dec. 5th Commencement ceremonies.

  • Hand Sanitizer Stations Free-standing hand sanitizer-dispensing stations are available at college building entrances and main traffic areas.  Be smart about the flu.

  • Sympathy Note.  Adjunct faculty member Elwood Fleming died Dec. 5 at Marietta Memorial Hospital from complications related to a car accident earlier in the fall.  He had taught in the Social Sciences Division for the past 13 years.  Funeral arrangements are pending.  (Submitted by Peggy Jameson)  

  • Library Hours.  The campus Library will be open Noon - 4 PM on Sunday (Dec. 13).  (Submitted by Stephen Hupp)
  • College Chorale in Concert.  The College Chorale will join the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra for its popular "Home for the Holidays" concerts. Performances in Charleston at the Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences will be presented at 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 11 and Saturday, Dec. 12. Tickets may be purchased by calling (304) 561-3570 or online. A performance in Parkersburg will be presented at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 13 at Blennerhassett School.   • Auditions.  The Theatre and Music departments are holding auditions for the upcoming musical production of "Walking Happy."  Auditions are scheduled this week and next (Dec. 1-4 and 8-11) from 10 am. to noon and 2 to 3 p.m. or by special arrangement.  Needed is a cast of more than 20 persons of which 14 are male roles and seven are female.  Not all roles are singing or speaking parts so there are opportunities for extras, chorus members and dancers.  Contact Jeff Byrd at ext. 295 for more information. 
  • Book Fair. The Early Learning Center is having a Scholastic Book Fair through Thursday (Dec. 10th) in front of the center.  Books are available for immediate purchase and make great stocking stuffers.  Stop by and browse. (Submitted by Linda Novak)
  • Campus-Wide Paper Collection Dec. 9-10.  In a campus-wide effort to reduce storage of unneeded paperwork, containers will be available on campus Dec. 9-10 to collect paper to be shredded.  This is an opportunity for you to discard office papers, files, etc. that you no longer need to archive.  Contact Dave White or Bob Cooper and they will arrange for your paper to be picked up. Twelve containers (which can accommodate 1,000 lbs each) will be located near the maintenance break room in the lower level.   The paper will be removed from campus Dec. 11 and shredded.  Questions?  Contact Dave White (ext. 225).

  • H1N1 Vaccines. The Mid-Ohio Health Dept.  will offer free H1N1 flu vaccines in the multi-purpose room from 2 to 7 p.m.,  Wednesday (Dec. 9th).  The vaccines are for students, faculty and staff.  For details, contact Pam Santer (ext. 205).
  • Welcome.  Welcome to Elizabeth “Beth” West as a part-time Child Care Assistant II to the Early Learning Center as of Dec. 2.  Also, on Dec. 7th, please welcome Renee Dunn to the President’s Office as a Program Assistant II. (Submitted by Peggy Jameson)
  • MyAccess.  New option for updating your personal information: WVU has announced the launch of MyAccess. This is another step toward self-service.  MyAccess is your entry to a “wallet” of services designed just for you. MyHR is available in your wallet and will allow you to update your personal information.  There are other applications in the wallet that you can use.  As more services become available, they will be added. Planned are MyBenefits, MyTime, MyReports, and MyNotifications, among others. Check MyAccess often as more services are added for your convenience. (Submitted by Peggy Jameson)
  • Study Abroad Scholarship for STEM Majors. For the first time, the Gilman Scholarship program is making money available for summer study abroad. The program must be at least 28 days in length, and student applicants must be receiving the federal Pell Grant. Details are online.
