Medicare Part B and PEIA: What to do when turning age 65? A common question asked by older employees deals with what to do if you reach age 65 and become eligible for Medicare while still working at WVU.
The answer is: If you are receiving health coverage through WVU as either an employee or dependent of an actively working employee, you do not need Medicare Part B. You are required to have Medicare Part B as a retiree or dependent of a retiree when enrolled in the PEIA retiree health insurance.
An easy way to remember this is if you have a PEIA health insurance deduction on your WVU pay check, you do not need Medicare Part B. The PEIA Summary Plan Description has details on Page 19.
