What is a Process Technician?
A process technician is a key member of a work team responsible for planning, analyzing, and controlling the production of products from the acquisition of raw materials through the production and distribution of products to customers in a variety of process industries. A process technician's duties include maintaining a safe work environment, controlling, monitoring and troubleshooting equipment, analyzing, evaluating and communicating about data and training others. 

A process technician applies quality principles to all activities performed ensuring customer satisfaction. Particular emphasis is on process control applied to production operations and the continuous improvement of those operations. A process technician is utilized in many industries:

  • Chemical

  • Refining

  • Oil/gas exploration and production

  • Food/beverage processing

  • Power generation

  • Pharmaceuticals

  • Paper/pulp

  • Water treatment

WVU Parkersburg's Process Technology program emphasizes hands-on learning.  The program is  affiliated with the Center for the Advancement of Process
Technology and over 50 other colleges.  WVU Parkersburg faculty work together to ensure best practices and consistent materials.  We offer you a career-ladder roadmap that allows certification in the core competencies in 12 months, then on to a two-year degree, and further into a four-year program.  Stop at any of the levels or move up levels to match your goals.  Our program is hands on to assure the skills that companies want.  We have an industry-based Advisory Board to insure that the Process Technology program meets the expectations and needs of the businesses in many fields.
