WVU Parkersburg hosted a West Virginia School Board Association working group meeting regarding the dissolution of Regional Education Service Agencies (RESA) throughout the state on Aug. 28, 2017.

The goal of the meeting was to develop a template to help counties transition from RESA services to an education service cooperative.

In the recent legislative session, the dissolution of the RESA program by June 30, 2018, was approved in HB 2711. RESA received no operational funding for the 2017-18 school year.

County Board of Education members and superintendents are now collaborating to provide a solution for counties that depended on services provided by the eight RESA programs throughout the state. The recommendations from the working group meeting and the forthcoming committees will be shared with the RESA Task Force appointed by Governor Jim Justice at their next meeting in October.
